Happy 20th Anniversary to Uncle Bacala's. Was here with a few Yelp friends for lunch. For the whole month of November, they were running specials for 3 course pre-fixe lunch ($13.95) and dinner. It was packed here with so many diners. Do not forget to make reservations. Make sure your party is all together so they can sit you right away. Friendly staff and great service. They also have valet parking. Food was delicious. Soup Creme of Zucchini Italian Sausage and Bean Soup Entrees Brasato al Barolo- The short ribs were juicy and tender. Broiled Salmon- Salmon was fresh and the sides do not disappoint. Dessert- Creme Brule- top was crunchy with rich, decadent and creamy. My friends had the Tiramisu and the Peach Ravioli. Will definitely, be back next time to try the Peach Ravioli.
We've been living in Long Island for over 20 years and have driven past here too many times to remember, but finally had an opportunity to stop in. Local, family style Italian restaurant with solid offerings at fair prices. While we love Lenny's, Il Bacco and the original Umberto's when it was still on the corner of Mulberry and Hester (!!!), Uncle Bacala's was pretty good too. We had the baked clams, seafood pasta, ossobuco, side of veggies and some tiramisu for dessert. Everything was satisfactory and we enjoyed a good Italian dinner here. About $175 with 2 glasses of wine.
Uncle Bacala's has been an institution in Garden City Park for many years. Actually, I do not remember their spot without the restaurant there. Just a 7-10 minute drive on Jericho Tpke. from my house with an easy entrance in and exit. Peter, the owner is always there and greets all his guests when he's up front. The hostesses always greet you with a big smile. I have been coming here for many years and was surprised that I hadn't checked in or written a review. The restaurant and bar always seem to be busy and there is much electricity in the air. I think most people here are regulars. Plenty of seating, private dining areas and a beautiful outdoor seating area. They were running a special for their 20th anniversary and they were very busy when we were there... All tables filled and people waiting. After a short time we were brought to our table and our waiter came by seconds later with bread and checking if we wanted any special drinks. My wife and I went off the special pice fixe menu which included an appetizer, main, and dessert. Appetizers: Italian Sausage and Bean Soup - Italian sausage, vegetables and beans in a chicken broth Mozzarella in Carrozza - Crispy fried country bread stuffed with mozzarella served in marinara sauce Main: Chicken Francese - Classic Francese with a light coating of flour and egg and a marvelous lemon-butter-wine sauce Brasato al Barolo - Braised beef short ribs with mushrooms in a Barolo wine sauce served with creamy polenta Dessert: Crispy Peach Ravioli - Warm peaches stuffed in a lightly fried crispy dessert shell tossed in cinnamon and sugar over vanilla sauce served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream Crème Brulee - We've all had this before and my only comment was this was the best I have ever had. (warm, creamy, full of flavor) Everythng was five star... The excitement in the dining area, service and fabulous food. I can not recommend this shop enough. It's just a treat to be here. We were fortunate to catch their 20th anniversary price fixed meal. A starter, entree and dessert for $24.99. I had made a reservation on Open Table for a Monday, and when we arrived at 6:45, the place was jam packed! Seated in the dining room, close to the kitchen, we were able to see it all. We didn't catch our server's name but he was spot on with our order, even getting sauce on the side for our picky eater. Our starters included rigatoni Ala vodka, cream of zucchini soup and a fried mozzarella. All were delicious. So many choices for our entrees but we decided on chicken Parmesan and the tilapia. The portions were tasty and huge. We opted for creme brulee and a mini cannoli, which had a different flavor but was still very delicious. Thank you for a great dining experience
We stopped by this restaurant on a whim with no reservations. It can get packed quickly as they host many celebrations! They offered crayons for the kids and were pretty kid friendly. They even have a kids menu and was able to put in the kids order first and it came out quickly. We ordered apple salad, Cesar salad, veal pasta and chicken Parmigiana for four adults and it was a lot of food. I didn't really like the apple salad as the goat cheese was too strong for me. Portion sizes were big. They even offer cotton candy after for the kids!
I attended a 70th birthday celebration for my sister on November 9th at "Uncle Bacala's Italian Restaurant" in Garden City Park, Long Island. It was held inside a large canvass tent. Wow, was I impressed by the great food selection and service of the wait staff. It was efficient and the organization of everything was impeccable. A very special thanks to manager / party coordinator Eva. Her attention to detail and her caring ways helped make my sister's celebration a grand success. I'd also like to commend Peter, Barbara and Harmon. We all had a truly splendid time and will definitely be back.
10/29/24. Asked the bartender ( I believe his name is Gio) if he can make a cosmo ($15) not too sweet, and he delivered! The drink was perfect. At the table we ordered spaghetti frutti di mare ($38, requested al dente and extra spicy), veal valdostana ($62, pounded extra thin as requested) and salmon ($29). The veal was huge and tender. All were delicious. Even though we were stuffed we ordered the pumpkin cheesecake and a side of cannoli cream (because why not!). Our server, Alexa, was great. The owner Peter is always present and pays attention to detail. It was a pleasurable night.
We were greeted warmly by two hostesses. They were very sweet to my daughters. It was busy and it seemed there was a large party of dining for lunch when we arrived but we were seated pretty quickly without a reservation. The lunch special is great with baby options. Comes with a starter, main course and dessert. I ordered the salmon, salad, and tiramisu. I also ordered a sangria that was on the happy hour menu. Everything was tasty. The kid's menu has many options. My daughters ordered chicken Parm and spaghetti meatballs. They enjoyed their food. The highlight was the cotton candy at the end of the meal! This is a super kid friendly dining experience. We will be back!
Food- 5/5 Service- 5/5 Ambiance- 5/5 The food is absolutely delightful! I've been multiple times and I will say "grandmas lasagna" is my favorite. (Not pictured) The first time I went I ordered the fish.. it was a bit fishy for my taste and the UB staff IMMEDIATELY swapped it out for something I liked better. The drinks are tasty, not too strong and not weak either. The espresso martini was a fast fave! Cotton candy is automatic dessert so you've been warned ! 2 thumbs up and highly recommended!!!
Make a reservation and they have free parking ! I've been going here for years and it's always amazing! Beautiful restaurant with and outdoor backyard that's lovely.Great food, friendly service and delicious drinks! Also that cotton candy at the end makes everyone a kid again! We went on Saturday at 6:30 this Labor Day weekend it was filled with happy people enjoying their weekend ! They always have the best basket of bread! We had Coconut Martini 's & 1 Shirley Temple ( kids non alcoholic drink) That coconut martini is Fire ! We started with the authentic onion soup made fresh not canned covered with pastry very hot & delicious ! Not spicy Main courses my nephew had Spaghetti Carbonara with added grilled chicken, granddaughter had Shrimp parmigiana which she enjoyed. I had the incredibly tender and huge Veal Osso Buco!!! Which I bring home about 1/2 it's a lot & a side of spinach! For dessert I had cream brûlée ,granddaughter had warm chocolate cake yummy! It was a fun relaxing evening , it is a little expensive but so worth it!!!
